Basically if Clubhouse had launched in the post-LLM era. It's like what Odeo could have been if it had been born 20 years later.

@chrismessina How do I get an invite >?

I've been using Airchat for a year, throughout all it's iterations. There's tons of amazing folks that I now call friends that I met on AirChat and it's definitely a breath of fresh air as it comes to social media apps, specifically because voice intonations etc cannot be faked easily. You know who you're speaking with! Definitely give it a try if you have a friend in there, it's really fun.

Have tried this out over the weekend, I have some thoughts: - feels like early clubhouse days - it's very smooth, at times it feels even more polished than big social apps like twitter - transcription was a bit buggy at the start (I have an accent) but it seemingly adapted - heard a lot of people say it will replace podcasts — I don't think so - I wish the audio would stop playing when I leave the app - if this gets PMF I can see twitter quickly whipping up a competitor and using their existing audience to lead the space. - groups: i think groups will be huge for Airchat and they should be prioritised. - memeposting is not as funny in voice form

Could anyone send me an invite?

Invite please? thx

I am addicted. I absolutely love it. Having to use your voice as the only input is a beautiful thing because it humanizes and enriches convos. Well done 🎉🎉🎉

This is super fun way to hang out felt like I was socializing while I also did chores

Voice is biometric data. An app like this must be open source and built on a decentralized protocol like atproto.com or nostr.
Elie Steinbock
Love the app. Optimistic on the future of real conversations.

So, what exactly does it do? 🧐

@joeygrillo what's your take?

It's great for DMs. @aaronoleary from now on, don't slack me, Airchat me. #airhead

I applaud the team for making a unique voice app. However, the navigation between conversations and hearing randomness feels like a ton of chaos. This would be a GREAT app for podcasts to pull out the best nuggets. Seems like a better use case 🎙️ 🔥
Diamond Bishop
@derkolstad I like the concept but this is one the big issues. Very hard to navigate interesting convos and sometimes (many times in my feed) the ones you see and want to participate in are stuck behind a closed group
Derek
This would be soooooo much better (in my view) if it was just for podcasts. Pull out and listen to only the best nuggets 🎙️ 🔥

I've really enjoyed AirChat from the beta to public launch. There are a few things that make it special to me: - The conversational nature is important. The discussion feels closer to those you'd have with friends in a coffee shop in SF or at a cocktail party in NY. - The async focus allows me to step away when needed and come back to a discussion without feeling lost. Looking forward to seeing how this holds up as more content comes online, but it's been something I've liked to date. - The density of incredibly smart and unique people is awesome. Have had conversations on everything from AI and Bitcoin to dating and geopolitics. - In contrast to other audio-centric, apps it doesn't feel like anyone is grandstanding or rambling, etc. The form factor really forces clarity of communication. Excited to see how the app continues to improves with groups, transcription quality, etc as it scales. Very cool to see it continue to progress!

This one is special @Naval. Intimacy of voice, with the asynchronous nature in which the conversation becomes the center of attention, hearing various thoughts and responses with an ability to chime in as one desires is nice for Introverted Extroverts like myself. Great work @brianNorgard @kylebarber, Airchat Makers…Thanks for the invite Jason Levin

Airchat has been incredible. Feels super connective right now, meaningful conversations. Almost like audio notes with friends I haven’t had a moment to catch up with in forever. Digging it 🙌

Instant, accurate voice to text transcription might be the big unlock for audio-centric social. For those on Airchat, what are your first impressions?
Chris W
@rrhoover Whisper is really accurate and quick. Are they not using Whisper for Airchat? I can't join to try because they've paused invites
Jesse Dorsey
@rrhoover I really enjoy it - feels social in a way that's more about an appeal to your ideas in the moment over what authority has been generally granted to you by position and/or follower count.
Diamond Bishop
@rrhoover accurate is the hard part here. It’s accurate enough but if you’re taking about anything technical or even using proper names of things in the convo already it tends to get them wrong. The good thing is there are a bunch of ways to fix this that I’m sure they’ll get to eventually
Maciek Chmura
@rrhoover It feels fresh. I think there will be a lot more trust building because you can hear the person's actual voice. Also feels much more mellow than X right now.
Penaaz Valecha
@rrhoover It's unique. A keyboardless experience hasn't ever been so prominent before. The audio and transcription quality is pretty cool. Some background noise cancellation would be nice, though. The coolest part is the quality of people and how reachable most of them seem and (kinda) are.
