Project Shasta brings AI-powered audio recording and editing to the web, no download required. Now anyone can create audio that sounds professional, without needing to be a professional.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I’m Mark, the head of audio products for Adobe.
Today I’m excited to share Project Shasta, which our team has been incubating within Adobe's DVA group.
I'm going to tell you a bit about Project Shasta, but you’re probably better off just watching the product walkthrough from our designer Sam.
PRODUCT WALKTHROUGH: https://youtu.be/DTVbLxJwa0Y
Last year we started exploring new ways to help people edit audio on the web. But then it became clear that the pandemic made recording difficult too, even for audio professionals. Podcasts that used to be recorded in-person were now recorded over video conferencing software. They sounded terrible.
So our vision became empowering everyone with the tools they needed to create professional sounding audio. Challenge accepted.
Project Shasta centers around a few core features:
➞ REMOTE RECORDING
Simply share a link with a guest and hit record. It records everyone on their own device then syncs to the cloud. The recordings sound great, even when the internet connection is not.
➞ MIC CHECK
While fancy microphones can make you sound great, you can probably get crisp audio with a mic you already have. It just takes having the right setup. Mic Check is an AI-service that walks you through the steps to take to set the gain properly, place the microphone at the proper distance, and ensure the room you’re in works well for recording.
➞ TEXT-BASED AUDIO EDITING
All spoken audio is transcribed in Project Shasta, powered by Adobe Premiere Pro’s transcription technology. You can edit the audio based on what was said, and Project Shasta helps make each edit sound its best.
➞ AI FILTERS
Project Shasta’s AI filters replace the dials and sliders of most audio software with a simple toggle. The first filter at launch, Enhance Speech, makes all the audio sound as if it were recorded in a professional studio. It removes background noise and makes everyone sound like they used an expensive microphone. And there’s a lot more on the way!
We’re sharing this as an early Alpha to get feedback from you all. It’s currently free to use, initially supports English only, and requires Google Chrome.

Thanks everyone!
Fun fact: Why the name Shasta? Inspired by the idea of everyone having stories they want to “shout from the hilltop” we named it after Mount Shasta in Northern California, Adobe’s home state.
@libovness Thanks! While Project Shasta is great for remote recording with other people, the Mic Check and Enhance Speech features are a huge help for recording on your own too, like for podcasts, voiceovers for videos, and other stuff.
Yeah, we are working on something very similar, but does a lot more. It’s great to get validation on a product from one of the greatest creative industry leaders. This specific market is not overwhelmed with offerings yet, except from companies like Descript, Podcastle and a few others. However, each offers unique features that the others do not have, at the moment.
Adobe has, by far, made the editing of new and existing live and recorded audio transcripts easier to perform. The addition of voice enhancements and single click invite interviews is a plus. It is nice to see Adobe, more so, now extending there expertise to target the casual creative market along with professionals. Creative Cloud Express is their most recent addition, a Canva competitor, now Shasta. Awesome.
Many of these features are offered to developers from 3rd party services to integrate, nothing new. Beyond integration, the toughest part is the ability to sync, edit add background music and other “media” in realtime. We accomplished this in 5 days.
We are building a tool that goes beyond this which will be offered as a more complete solution to create, edit, share, host and publish podcasts, stories, voiceovers and much more - effortlessly. Did anyone say video? Hmmm. Haha, you shall see.
Will be posting real soon a link so that you guys can tryout for yourselves.
@usama_khalid No timing on that yet, as we're just getting started. But Project Shasta would be a great way to create all the files to upload! (just checked out Voicl btw, very cool!)
@markcwebster I see. That would be awesome.
Thank you. Appreciate it. Yeah we're trying to enable voice on different websites. No-code version of it coming Jan 2022. Excited for it.
@farokh_shahabi exactly. It makes editing audio as easy as editing a Google doc. For now, Project Shasta is free to use, no news yet on what future pricing might be.
@markcwebster this looks incredible. It has the potential to change how the traditional story gathering, production and publishing workflow is currently. Our magazine records just about every interview, from wherever we are in the world. I have hard drives full of recordings waiting for the story to be slotted into particular issues. Mark, if you or @samdotdesign is willing, I'd be happy to help with the Q/A trials. Our magazine uses audio so much to support our print product, I can all ready imaging new endeavors this could open us up to. Another question, does this work with Spanish too? I sometimes record interviews in both English and Spanish (separately) and have been looking at opportunities for duolingo interviews. (Here's a recent example: (English) https://www.goodfruit.com/aylin-... (Spanish) https://www.goodfruit.com/es/ayl...
Thanks!!
