"IP-friendly and commercially safe" is a good way to describe the AI slop that's going to flood the internet in coming years.
The most interesting content will flout conventional copyright and other rights restrictions in pursuit of real human expression and meaningful artistic endeavors.
Godspeed to the Adobe killers!
@chrismessina You always make me think, Chris.
It's difficult to verify non-infringement with these models. Application providers often point to the model creators and offer watermarking tools as a kind of disclaimer.
And with the models themselves, the training data is often a black box – we don't really know what's in there until there's a problem.
I completely agree that overly restrictive copyright hinders innovation. And you're right – if AI is accelerating everything, why shouldn't it also accelerate the IP protection timelines?
@zac_zuo I understand the need/desire to use only IP-cleared content, but unfortunately this also means that, over time, nearly all content and ideas will be protected by a small number of litigious players who will sit on all their IP protected content and sue others, rather than creating anything new. AI will only make it easier to find infringement, and it won't be the indie artists that are able to get compensated — it'll be the Gettys and Adobes and other rights horders. I get that artists want to get paid if their work ends up in training data, but they should think through where there advocacy will actually end up.
The people who built the Matrix no doubt also thought they were serving humanity by creating a fairer more rules-based reality, but ultimately their future turned into maximum slavery.
Be wary is what I'm saying.
This is huge! The fact that Firefly is commercially safe and integrates with Premiere Pro is amazing. Definitely eager to see what's possible with this! Congrats on the launch!
Congrats on the Launch! 😁
The Adobe integration is a big plus, and the emphasis on commercial safety is amazing.
In what sense have you put T&C's in place to give the rights of the videos to the creators of the video?
"commercially safe" makes me think you're hiding something else, which happens with many other Adobe producs.
I work with schools and universities in the Netherlands and the T&C's for students, meaning that all their IP they create during their educations, for which they're forced by their schools (on lobbying from Adobe) to use, which is not their actuall property...
How does this imply for this product? Are my creations My creations or is Adobe the IP holder?
With that, will my system crash after using this by the tens or hundreds of unnecesary spyware background processes you run on my computer for
"user analytics"
Have you put in normal processes to cancel the subscription after purchassing aswell?
Sorry to give a negative response on this launch, but obviously not a fan of Adobe, nor their way of treating customers. Let producthunt be a place for products that love their customers and actually listens to their userbase without exploiting them. Go run FB ads or something.
The focus on commercially safe AI is a smart move, and I can see this being a game-changer for creators who are cautious about copyright issues. Really curious to see how this shapes the future of video production. Great work, congrats to the Adobe team!
Hi everyone!
Adobe Firefly adds video generation! Firefly focuses on commercially safe generative AI, trained on licensed content.
With the new video features, you can:
✍️ Text to Video: Turn prompts into video clips.
🖼️ Image to Video: Animate still images.
🎥 Control: Adjust camera angles, motion, and style.
➕ More: Firefly also generates images and audio.
🤝 Integrates: Works with Premiere Pro (beta) and other Adobe apps.
It'll be interesting to see how this develops within the broader AI video generation products. The Adobe integration could be a major advantage for professionals already in their ecosystem.
What are your thoughts? How important is "commercial safety" to you when choosing an AI video tool?
