@blendahtom We're buying ads, so the publishers receive the revenue the same way they would for other ads. We're able to increase the money publishers receive because we're able to bid higher than advertisers would for the same impression. All of this is possible because the consumer is buying their own ad. Does that help?
@andreaspizsa Thanks! Hope you enjoy using it. And stick around, we're taking the idea of putting the consumer back in control of their web browsing to new and exciting places. :)
Hi @mankins, I absolutely love the idea. I am looking for a way to replace my Ad Blocker for something a little more ethical.
Usually what I do is I unblock certain websites which I care about and which don't offer intrusive ads, but it's quite tedious and I often forget to do it.
HOWEVER, 5$/500 ad blocks seems very expensive to me, even though you advertise it as cheap on your website. I use the internet all day, and I think I would be exposed to hundreds (maybe thousands) of ads each day if I didn't use ad block, especially when going to not-so-legal streaming sites. Seems to me like I would be paying at least 5$/day just to use the internet. What's your opinion on that ? How long do you think 5$ would last me if I used your product ?
Also, does your product work for any kind of ad and/or website ? Will pop-ups still show up in my face ?
@tom_jacquesson Easiest thing would be to try it (be sure to turn off your ad block first.) and see how long it lasts. We give you $2 for free. For my browsing, it seems to last forever.
For a longer answer, maybe some statistics would help. The average internet user in the US has advertisers paying $5.61 per month for all of their ads. So, on average (and here's where your worry may come in), worst case, $5.61.
But that $5.61 includes all display ads. Ads are direct sold on sites whenever possible, as this is how publishers fetch the most for the ad impression. For those ads that aren't direct sold, the rest go out to auctions where some of them are available for retargeting by advertisers like Adieu. (Here Adieu is an advertiser.) It's estimated that only 40% of impressions are available for auction this way. Now we're down on average to $2.25.
Unfortunately, as we're currently small, we're not allowed at all the ad auctions. We're at maybe 15%, but growing more daily. ... so your $2 should last you awhile.
I don't have any figures yet for much the average Adieu user spends per month... since we're on day 2. :)
Let me know if that answered your question?
Adieu is an ad blocker of sorts—but better. It keeps you from seeing annoying ads, but still pays publishers for the content they produce.
Our trick: we use your dollars and the existing ad retargeting system, letting you pay for your own ads, putting pictures of cats, your kids, or whatever else you choose.
I should note that this works without a plugin, without any software to install. It also doesn't require publishers to opt in. We simply buy ads at existing ad auctions and let you control what you see in those ads. They become "rads", repurposed ads at that point.
It's a little bit of a funny idea, so I'm happy to answer any questions.
@mankins If I understand correctly, this works fine if the publisher is on one of the retargeting networks that you utilize. However, what about the publishers that are not on one of these retargeting networks? I'm assuming that these sites just aren't changed, since there is no plugin. Very interesting idea, although I wouldn't describe it as an ad-blocker - more like a way to take control of ad retargeting via direct purchase. The downside seems to be that you are only influencing a small amount of the total inventory a user sees, as it's only remnant retargeting.
@kevinakiralee Your analysis is correct. This is the first product of our company which is trying to come up with another way to monetize content besides banner ads. So some of the way we're positioning the product is a result of that trajectory.
Some of the more successful uses I've seen deal with behavior change. We have a rad that suggests you eat more veggies for instance: https://www.adieu.io/boards/id/1...
