One shoe. One material. Designed to be ground up and remade without ever losing performance. GEN 2 is adidas' first milestone and proof of progress by creating it directly from the recycled materials used in GEN 1. Made to be remade.
Upon searching for some eco-friendly shoes recently, I stumbled across a blog post that mentioned these. It's pretty incredible what adidas aims to achieve. From my understanding, they have managed to take plastic and turn it into a recyclable compound to use in every single part of the shoe. Instead of throwing shoes away when they get worn down, adidas could take the shoe, fully recycle it, and provide a brand new shoe without producing additional material waste. π€―
GEN 2 acts as their proof of concept by taking their GEN 1 shoe, recycling it, and using all the materials recycled from GEN 1 to make the GEN 2 shoe.
It looks like these are planned to publicly launch in early 2021, but are currently in beta.
