πŸ‘‹ Hey Product Hunt! Thanks for checking out 1Feed. I built 1Feed to solve my content consumption problems β€” I used to spend hours checking social media to stay up to date. And every time I tried to disconnect, I missed out completely on what was going on. So I embarked on a mission to build an app that would allow me to stay up to date with the topics and people I was interested in, without sucking more than a few minutes from my day. And that's 1Feed! I use it every day (for only a few minutes of course), and I love it β€” it's definitely not going anywhere any time soon, because I couldn't live without it! πŸ˜› ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's a bit about 1Feed and how it works: πŸ“΅ 1Feed is designed to replace whatever you currently check to stay up to date β€” your Twitter timeline, YouTube recommendations, Google news feed, or whatever else. πŸ€– Rather than use any algorithms, 1Feed only shows you what you explicitly told it to show you, and sorts everything chronologically. πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ€ But how does 1Feed stop your feed from getting messy? 1Feed shows you a list of *people*, not *posts*. Every time a person or site you follow posts, they move to the top. 🀫 This stops your feed from being dominated by a few noisy posters, allowing you to keep up with everything you need to quickly β€” each poster takes up the same amount of space in your feed! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ πŸ“ΉπŸ”΄ Also, I'm livestreaming this launch!!! Come watch me at https://twitch.tv/ethan_the_maker.

@m1guelpf Thanks Miguel!!! 😁

@bochkovaleks Thank you Aleks! πŸ™Œ

Ethan, may I say, you're amazing? This is just wow, fantastic! Simple concept, extremely useful, beautifully executed πŸ‘πŸ‘ I'd love the ability to delete an account and change my email address after registration please.
Ethan
@anna_0x Thank you Anna!!! 😊😊 Will add those features in the next release.
Justin Cranshaw
I love the idea of taking the dopamine out of a feed. Great mission! How do you envision balancing that "quite place on the internet" vibe, with maintaining the ability to discoverability novel content at scale? Is there space for algorithmic curation in 1Feed's future?
Ethan
@compurbanist Thanks Justin! I'm definitely open to putting more methods of discovery into 1Feed, both algorithmic and non-algorithmic (eg. crowdsourcing and curating), but if I do add any of that stuff, it'll be done very carefully and be strictly optional. I.e. if you've turned discovery features off in Settings, you won't see anything other than what you've explicitly added. And I don't think I'd ever show 'recommended' content on the main screen itself, it'd be via some kind of 'recommended' menu or page that you could go to.

I use 1Feed since the early days of the app and it has reduced a lot my twitter consumption. It has been a while since I was looking for an app like that and I'm really happy that @booligoosh made it! Keep up the good work.
Ethan
@louisdv Awesome, thank you so much Louis!!!
Aris Alexis
Isn't dopamine a good thing? :) Confusing brand one-liner. Maybe change it to 10x dopamine haha. Semi-joking
Ethan
@aris_alexis Maybe for some people, but not for those wanting to reduce their online consumption / tech addiction! 1Feed is made for those people πŸ˜„
Cristian
Congrats, this looks awesome! I have just started getting into RSS and adding RSS support to my sites. Do you think 1Feed can be also used ad a simple RSS feed reader?
Ethan
@cristy94 Yep, 1Feed can read any RSS or Atom feed! However, if you want to test your RSS feed with a more 'generic' RSS reader (i.e. more along the lines of what most users use to subscribe to RSS feeds), then you could try Feedly or NetNewsWire on Mac. 1Feed is more focused on helping you consume content in a better way than just 'being an RSS reader', although it definitely is that :)
Ethan
@cristy94 Thank you! :)

Is it possible to add Twitter lists? I've spent a ton of time creating subject matter lists and would be ideal to be able to add those.
Ethan
@clickbrain I'm actually working on this! Question - would you prefer one 1Feed item (I.e. one name + avatar) for the entire list, or one 1Feed item for each person in the list?
Brad Nickel
@booligoosh Awesome! I think I would prefer 1 item for the list if you mean a stream of all items posted in the list. I could always just pull a person out and put them in a folder I guess, but I may be misunderstanding what you mean.
Paisano
Exciting to see this. It reminds me of friendfeed from many years ago which facebook acquired and killed.
Ethan
@paisano Oh wow! Never heard of Friendfeed until now (I was like 4 years old when they launched lol) but sounds like it was really nice!
Aaron O'Leary
Hey @booligoosh congrats on the launch! Are there any plans to make a mobile app?
Ethan
@aaronoleary Thanks Aaron! Honestly I would, and I've been really tempted to, but the main thing keeping me away is the fact that the app stores take such a large cut of revenue, and the fact that my income is entirely dependent on the mood of some random app store reviewer deciding to block updates (lots of cases of this, but lots of those are with big organizations where they have the influence to actually get something done about it, whereas a small maker might not). So from a purely technical level, I would love to make a mobile app, but from a business/economic/political level, I've decided not to. That said, if you add 1Feed to your home screen, it does function like a native app! On Android, you can even share stuff directly to the 1Feed PWA.
Iacopo Livia
Hi Ethan, great idea! This is a huge problem of mine, every day I get lost to read endless contents on a thousand different apps. The product (and UX) is amazing because it's so simple. It would be amazing if you can add a feature to receive posts from certain LinkedIn profiles (I have a favorites folder of best profiles and look at their activities every day but it takes a lot of time). p.s. I'm loving the fact that you're streaming whole the day about the launch (it was an idea I had while reading the MAKEbook), you are my new idol!
Ethan
@iacopo_livia Thank you!! That's a really good idea, honestly it didn't come to my mind because I don't think I've ever found anything interesting on LinkedIn (πŸ˜‚), but I'm sure there's lots of stuff on there that people would want to follow. And thanks, I always stream every time I do a launch because a) I think it builds a lot of hype, b) it's kinda fun, and c) I think it's probably helpful for others who are considering or preparing to launch on Product Hunt

I just signed up to try 1Feed out. It's surprisingly easy to add feeds, especially via the browser extension. I could add most sites I tried (some independent blogs don't gave a RSS feed, then it won't work). I haven't found yet how to remove something, probably shouldn't have skipped the intro :D The monetization is well done. The free plan let's you use the product while the paid plan add's not-neccessary functionality. All in all, I really like 1Feed. Great design and UX and you can see that @booligoosh invested a lot of time. Try it out; the setup is really painfree and fast!
Ethan
@luis_hocke Thanks Luis, glad to hear the setup was nice and smooth!! To rename/move/delete/pin feeds, you can click on the edit (pen) button in the top right corner. It's not in the onboarding actually, so I might need to make that more obvious! Also need to add a way so you can get back to the onboarding to view it again lol.
LΟ…is
@booligoosh Thanks Ethan, just found it after writing the post. Not sure how I missed it, the edit button is pretty straight forward tbh πŸ˜‚
Ethan
@luis_hocke Hahah πŸ˜‚
Penny Watson
Cool concept - love that it only shows you what you explicitly tell it to show you and condensing it by person makes it way easier to keep your consumption/time spent down. Nice πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈπŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ
Ethan
@penny_watson00 Thanks Penny!! Honestly that's a really good way of summarising 1Feed, so thank you haha! Hope you enjoy it πŸ˜„βœ¨
sayo melu
to get twitter, reddit feed, you can use https://docs.rsshub.app/en or https://netnewswire.com. they are much more open than this.
Ethan
@sayomelu Yep, that's a good way to do things too! Honestly I guess they kinda cater to different audiences a bit, 1Feed is for more general users whereas self-hosted options are for more advanced users who like fiddling around with things. If you like open-source RSS readers, I also recommend https://fraidyc.at, that's another open RSS reader that is more similar to 1Feed in how it's a list of people rather than posts.
LΟ…is
@sayomelu I had a look at Rsshub.app, it's by far more time consuming to set up. There's probably solutions which support more sources or have more features, but 1Feed is by far quicker to set up and easier to use, especially for non-technical people. For example, on mobile devices you can swipe through elements of one source, which I really like from an UX standpoint.
Ethan
@sayomelu @luis_hocke Exactly! I guess it just caters to different audiences / use cases
Eugene Hauptmann
@booligoosh congrats on the launch! How do you plan to compete with feedly.com ?
Ethan
@eugenehp Hey, good question! I guess I don't need to directly comepete - even though we provide very similar services, we cater to very different audiences and needs. Feedly markets themselves as a tool for keeping track of things around the internet via RSS feeds etc, whereas 1Feed is marketed more as a way to improve your personal digital habits, and the product design is built very heavily around that. So someone just looking for a way to keep track of things may go for Feedly, whereas someone looking to improve the way they consume content or reduce the amount of time they spend consuming content might choose 1Feed. Hopefully that answers your question!
Eugene Hauptmann
@booligoosh Interesting, so you're positioning your product in a personal space vs pipeline processing. Thanks for elaborating! I'd suggest to figure out what's your Go To Market (GTM) strategy. Good luck πŸ‘
Dan Siepen
Well done Ethan! Congrats on the launch :) - Love the simplicity of the product, very neat.
Ethan
@dansiepen Thanks Dan!! :))
Vas
Congrats on the launch. How is it different from Pocket & alike though?
Ethan
@vasgo Thanks! Interesting question, because I actually use Pocket and 1Feed in tandem together every day! I think they go really well together, and might even make a proper integration in future. The way I see it is like this: - 1Feed is for *finding* content from people/sites I want to keep an eye on - Pocket is for saving/reading that content I found So each morning I usually go on 1Feed for a few minutes, I see a few articles that I want to read, and then I share them to Pocket. Then later on, when I feel like reading stuff, I go into my Pocket and read some of the articles that I added from 1Feed. So 1Feed is for discovering the content, and then Pocket is for saving that content to read later. (btw, to add something to Pocket from 1Feed, you can just hold down on the article on mobile and then share it to the 1Feed app, or right-click on the article on desktop and then click "save link to Pocket" in your browser's context menu if you have the Pocket browser extension installed)
Ethan
@vasgo You're welcome!
Boris Chumichev
Congrats on the launch. Looks very useful! The one thing that concerns me as a user is the ability to discover new content and people to follow. Twitter and other platforms out there make an excellet job recommending new content while presenting the feed. While using 1Feed I caught myself thinking that I might miss something because I restricted myself to limited content sources. Hope this feedback helps. Good luck.
Ethan
@boris_chumichev Hey! That's actually really interesting, often I dislike Twitter because it's always recommending me random content, and I'd prefer to only see content I asked to see. I feel like often hearing about things from people online or in real life is enough for me to discover new stuff. One discovery algorithm I've really been enjoying though is Pocket's related article recommendations, those are always very relevant. Still though, I have been considering this, and I may add a more mindful (and optional) way of letting users discover content compared to Twitter etc. If I were to do this, what sort of thing would you like? Something social where users can recommend things to each other? Some kind of recommendation algorithm? A hand-curated list of interesting feeds to add? A crowdsourced list of interesting feeds to add? Just throwing some ideas out there.
David Amunga
Really clever app. Its like Twitter for News/RSS Blogs that i love. Looks neat PWA on my phone. The design is also awesome
Ethan
@damunga Thank you David, appreciate it!! 😊
Tom Lister
1Feed is fully goated (greatest of all time). It rolls up all my news sources into one convenient feed and allows me to avoid scrolling through twitter commentary. Truly timesaving.
Ethan
@tomlister3 Hahahaha, thank you Tom!! πŸ˜πŸπŸπŸ™Œ
Fajar Siddiq
Congrats on the launch finally! loving it πŸ‘
