Product Hunt redesigned discussions with Reddit-style forums
7
Product Hunt has rolled out a major redesign for its forums, taking inspiration from Reddit’s subreddit structure. The new design offers a familiar Reddit-style layout, making it easy to dive into product-specific or topic-specific discussions. Here’s a breakdown of the key updates based on my observation: Subreddit-style forums Each product now has a dedicated forum under "p/product," where launch comments and discussions are centralized. Broader topics are grouped under "p/topic," such as product recommendations, general discussions, introductions and self-promotion. This mirrors Reddit’s "r/subreddit" system, making navigation familiar for users. Forum threads filters Threads can now be sorted by trending, popular, featured, or new. Popular threads can be filtered further by year, month, week, or day. This ensures that valuable discussions remain accessible, even long after they are posted. Exclusive AMA forums Invite-only AMAs (Ask Me Anything) provide an exclusive platform for makers to connect with the community. The recent AMA with Pascal, celebrating his "Maker of the Year" award, showcased the potential for meaningful engagement. Now you can also tag a product or PH user in your threads and comments. With these updates, Product Hunt probably aims to create a richer, community-driven experience. What do you think about these changes? Will they improve engagement ahead? Share your thoughts in the comments! :)

I think that I need time to get used to this visual. But it seems like something new and I am curious to see how this improve discussions and interacting. What do you think about this?

@busmark_w_nika I second you! I will need time to get used to it. I have a feeling engagement will get impacted (might reduce) unless new users spend enough time understanding how forums are designed. :)

Love this - Reddit is a great example of how convos can evolve and grow. Hope this spawns new discoveries and dialogs on PH!
Old discussions felt more like an open group chat, easy to jump into, but the new forum is more structured (great for in-depth discussions), but I wonder if it might slow down spontaneous engagement. Let's see if this change boosts meaningful interactions or makes it harder for casual users to participate.

@hamza_afzal_butt Yes, it will be interesting how the community conversations shape from here on :)

@hamza_afzal_butt what makes it more structured? The individual forum locations? Why would that slow down engagement?

I’m not used to the new version yet, so maybe I like it less than the old one.
