Open discussion about marketing on Reddit.

Hi guys! I'd like to start a discussion about gaining traffic either for your web or app products from Reddit. I've been trying to promote my product on Reddit for a few months and have gained a few hundreds of organic users. Would love to share my experience in the comment section and chat with fellow marketers who also use Reddit for their marketing chanel. I have a few questions to kick start the conversation: 1. How do you promote your app on Reddit? -- Reddit has a great amount of PC users and it frequently blocks attribution links, which makes app promotions harder. 2. How do you reach out to subreddits for collaborations to ensure the best results? 3. What are some subreddits that you've successfully gained organic traffic for your app?

Great discussion topic, Kelly! Here are my thoughts: 1. For promoting on Reddit, I focus on providing genuine value. Instead of direct promotion, I share useful content and insights related to my app in relevant subreddits. This builds trust and organically drives traffic. 2. When reaching out for collaborations, I ensure my approach aligns with the subreddit's rules and culture. Personalizing the message and clearly explaining the mutual benefits often leads to better engagement. 3. I've had success with subreddits like r/Productivity and r/SideProject. Engaging authentically and contributing to discussions without overtly promoting has been key. Looking forward to hearing everyone's experiences!

@kehui_guo How do you go about posting? I've gotten a lot of negative responses whenever I tried even lightly to plug in my product, openly and genuinely. It seems like plugging your product always reduces trust

Good questions Kelly. We've been trying to get some attention on Reddit. Would like to know how you get organic users. Regarding your first question. we try to find related posts and engage in conversations with the OPs or other participants. We also have a community discussing topics related to our service ( AI interior design/ virtual staging).

@salar__davari Of course. Here's a post I made about Reddit: https://www.producthunt.com/disc... Basically we used both subreddit marketing (narrowing down particular subreddits for organic traffic) and subreddit partnership (partnering with larger subreddits for product marketing. However we still face a few problems. The first is a low response rate of subreddits compared to Youtube/Instagram give the none-commercialization rule of Reddit. Secondly for organic traffic we have to be extremely cautious to avoid account bans. Would love to hear insights for both problems!

What are the quality results you get from Reddit? I'll only add that I would avoid spending any advertising dollars on Reddit. I've discussed experiences at leadership lunches about Reddit and there's a recurring theme.

Promoting on Reddit can be like navigating a maze of cat memes - tricky, but rewarding! I've found that being genuine, engaging with the community, and offering value are key to success. Have you ever felt like a meme lord while promoting your app on Reddit?

I don't think Reddit can be used in Marketing. I believe that if you already have a customer base for the product, you can create a help subreddit where you can answer customer questions.

Hey Kelly! Thanks for sharing, we've just begun experimenting with Reddit. Mostly answering questions related to our pain point and recommending Zeacon as the best solution. Do you have an example of a post that drove a lot of organic traffic that you could link?

@icodeforbeer I think there is a component of building your profile in general and in specific subreddits commenting, posting providing value ahead of even considering promoting your product

@icodeforbeer @etiennegatti That's true -- for Reddit it's perfectly fine to be a redditor with a business account but no ok to be a marketer with a reddit account.
