How do you use Notion to organize your startup?

I’m trying to figure out how to best use Notion to manage product development, marketing, and collaboration as my startup grows. Would love to hear your setups and tips!

@hussein_r what's your team like? How many people, in-person or distributed? What's the breakdown of EPD vs. other functions? Also @temirlan might have some thoughts.

@temirlan @rajiv_ayyangar Right now, I don’t have a team yet. I’m currently working on the project solo. So my focus is less on team structures and more on organizing product development, marketing, and potential collaborations efficiently within Notion. I want to make sure the setup is scalable from the start, so that when I do bring in a team, everything integrates smoothly. How do you use Notion for growing projects? Any setups or workflows you’d recommend?

@temirlan @hussein_r if it's just you, it can be really simple - just a list of things to do. I wouldn't stress about it - just focus on building and talking to users.

@temirlan @rajiv_ayyangarOk, thanks for the help 👍

I'm not a solo dev so my approach might be a bit different. From my personal working experience, having a dashboard is the key for organizing product and project management tasks. I use it to prioritize tasks and link them directly to specific projects. I also create detailed product requirements documents that cover everything from the background (why we need news product or changes or new features) to prototype designs and expected outcomes, which may seem like pointless formalism and tedious, but it works for me since I'm very forgetful LOL PS. each update has its own document, or the original doc would be too long to read, plus breaking big project into smaller ones makes it easier to fit into dashboard. It's all pretty basic I guess, but hope my sharing helps a little bit XD

@chacha_chan That helps, thanks. Do you use a template or is it something that just builds overtime?

Rachel Chan

@hussein_r Templates are just too fancy for me. I’ve tried using them directly a few times, but it always feels too rigid. I do often check out notion's template marketplace for inspiration and update my own setup, not sure if that’s morally okay though😂

Launching soon!
There are tons of templates available in Notion. Using them as a starting point can be really convenient. But the most important thing is to modify and customize them to suit your own style.

@kay_arkainThanks, I will have a look into the templates

I built out a startup OS with different hubs for product, marketing, users etc. Each hub has its own format like for marketing, there are different pages for goals, content strategies, tasks, and the editorial calendar. We pretty much used this for three years and tweaked it as our team grew. I’m planning to convert it into a template, so let me know if you’d be interested in checking it out.

@emmerita_ambata That sounds great and really interesting to me! We are a EdTech Startup and tried to implement Notion last year but didn't came to the point that me and my team really started to adopt it. I would love to learn from you!

I leverage Notion templates extensively. For expense tracking, milestone and major story tracking, and content collaboration, I use dedicated templates that keep our workflow organized. There are tons of great templates out there that make it really easy to tailor Notion to our startup’s needs.

@jazeer_404 That sounds that I should give Notion a second chance. I started last year but my team and me didn't got really into use it.

Notion can be a game-changer for managing a startup. I’ve found creating separate workspaces for each department—product development, marketing, and team collaboration—really helps keep everything organized. Using databases for tasks, timelines, and even meeting notes is great for tracking progress and CarX street game aligning teams. I also recommend setting up templates for recurring tasks to save time.
