How do you think new content moderation laws will affect social media platforms?

Every week there's a new list of content moderation laws and regulations coming out in the US and Europe. Do you think they will improve social media? Or will create unnecessary gatekeeping for the new startups?

Well, I guess we'll have to filter out all those cat memes and food pics that are too spicy for the internet. But seriously, it's a balancing act between freedom of speech and responsible content, let's hope they don't censor the good stuff!

I think policy is a step forward as we educate lawmakers about the complexity of digital space and programming practices. We need to do a better job as a society to make sure social platforms do not use addictive features to manipulate audiences. as we have seen in the news, this can lead to some very serious societal issues and health issues for individuals.

I think the decentralization, aka Web3, of social media platforms is about to start.

@hashnimo based on past experience, users clvale simplicity and over almost all other factors (and are willing to give up a lot of privacy and control to get there). I agree that web3 is the future but it needs to be easier than the status quo to take off. crypto needs to be easier than a credit card swipe, posting media needs to be easier than Instagram. I think a lot of web3 will ultimately be hidden from the end user under the hood.

I personally believe these content moderation laws will create a safer and richer digital experience for many users. However for these laws to have an impact we as users of these social media platforms must be given a trustless system through which we can determine that these laws are being applied correctly, as @hashnimo has pointed out Web 3 offers a solution to this aspect of content moderation. We have seen with "twitter files" that twitter had followed the content moderation laws but applied them in a way that would benefit an individual or propaganda, this is a serious concern that should be addressed before new laws are created and applied. I created the platform Pink Paper to create a trustless social experience where users are in control of their information and users will soon have the power to moderate themselves.
